Kirsten Dunst looking pretty proud in her colorful outfit
Seems like we see that Japanese fashion is branching out to some parts of Tinsel Town. Two blogs: Frisky and Stylelist report that Kirsten Dunst was seen walking the streets of Akihabara in her colorful ensemble. The blogs have said that she’s dressing up like “human anime”.
I think that a part of me is happy that a Western icon like Dunst actually gets out of her shell and pull off a look like this. Although I’m not really all for the EPIC SPLASH OF COLORS, I think the outfit is nice. I didn’t like how the fashion blogs mentioned the “how to dress like human anime” bit — especially Frisky’s article. I think it would have been better if it was worded as “Japanese fashion” rather than “human anime”or “manga look” because I’m pretty sure cosplaying from manga or anime actually meant deriving your costume from a character as well as portraying said character. The blogs reminded me too much of local media giving out the message: “in order to have a great cosplay, you just need to shell out lots of cash” — which is hateful by the way.
I haven’t really done much blog entries that deviated from figures, so this is one of the first… I think I’ll be adding more in the future though :)

Oh sweet jesus, those colours are bright enough to burn a hole through my head
Oh yes! And it gets better! One of the blogs I linked actually gives tips on how to replicate the exact look. Oh joy!
90% this is a publicity stunt.
Saw an article in ANN saying that it was for a video that will be shown in London later this year
That falls under “Publicity stunt”, I guess.
BTW, yes, need more original entries :)
If you look at it from a different light, maybe they were saying that she’s a real life anime character? At least that’s how I saw it when I saw the words “human anime”.
She have the credentials to do it, so why not? :P
I don’t think many people can pull off something like this and still looks so damn good.
Hm. Maybe, but I think the blogs should have still omitted the word “cosplay” since cosplaying has too much misconceptions already, IMO.
Not really bashing Dunst, I actually liked this — and I agree that she looks good. I was more negative towards the blogs that wrote articles about it.
there’s a big cosplay event in Roppongi Tokyo that looks really fun to be at
