Good day everyone! It seems that a week just flew by and here I am again delivering to you a song for Music Monday: NightmaRe by SNoW.
If you are familiar with Jigoku Shoujo and have liked it well enough to watch it’s second season, Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, then you’re probably familiar with this song. NightmaRe was Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori’s opening — I also heard it first from watching Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori and loved it — I think it’s much better than SNoW’s other single: 逆さまの蝶 (Sakasama no Chou). Below is the opening sequence of Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori featuring NightmaRe.
For those of you who liked SNoW and have wondered why isn’t she visible in the JPOP scene as of the moment, SNoW is currently resuming her studies in California after her contract ended with Sony Music in 2007. She said that her professional and personal life was taking its toll on her, which is why she decided on giving herself a break. It was quite a sad thing, since I think she’s talented, but in a blog entry on April 2008, she reveals a new stage name which will be “Yukie”. Hopefully, this means that we’ll be hearing from SNoW again sooner or later.
What I love about this song is that it’s upbeat, and yet it doesn’t go bubbly pop or transcend into R&B or dance — it somehow has a pop rock feel to it, which is nice in my opinion. Also, I liked the lyrics when I saw them translated. It’s also one of the songs that I can put on single track repeat.
NightmaRe’s music video, like my previous feature of アイシテル (Aishiteru), is a little bit strange — all I know is that it follows an Alice in Wonderland theme. Although I have yet to interpret any connection to the song itself. I like the flow of the music video, but I think the video as a whole could be better.
