Another Attack of the Exclusives!

Yes. As the title says, it’s another attack of the exclusives. I have to admit, I haven’t really been up to date with all the new figure releases lately. Life has been a bit busier for me more or less, which is why I am unable to look through the new announcements of upcoming figures like I used to. A friend on Twitter gave me a heads up on a exclusive figure of a character I love though, which is why this post has been made.

First up, the one of the releases that have piqued my interest are the upcoming Touhou plushies by Gift.

Sanae and Sakuya Plushies by Gift

Sanae and Sakuya Plushies by Gift

Now, I have to admit something, as much as I love Reimu and Marisa, I haven’t played a lot of Touhou. I have downloaded the 13 Touhou games thanks to a Touhou shrine which I couldn’t locate again because I couldn’t remember how I even found it. Sadly enough, I haven’t played all of the Touhou games and have only experienced Imperishable Night (which is epic awesome), which is why I couldn’t really identify each and every Touhou character I see. I have taken quite a liking to Sanae though because she looks so cute. I don’t know, I think it’s her unusual hair that makes me think she’s very adorable since when I try to look at the rest of her, she looks quite plain.

Now, before I continue on rambling, the reason why this certain release piqued my interest is because of the freebies that are with the plushies. The plushies are going to be sold during Gift’s Plush Festival and each purchase will come with a Reimu or Marisa keychain, a Sanae or Sakuya keychain (when you purchase a plush of either Sanae or Sakuya) and clear file folders for everyone (which might mean they’re given away for free!).

Pretty clear folder art is pretty! *o*

This might be a little surprising to hear since it’s a common stereotype, but I’m not really very interested in the plushies. I’m more interested in the keychains and the clear folder more than anything… but I’m pretty much expecting that if they ever show up anywhere online, they’d fetch a hefty price… unless someone is kind enough to send me one of these for free *o* *kills wishful thinking* Then again, Sanae is still adorable! If Gift plushies were affordable, I might’ve decided to save up for Sanae already ><;

Next up, KyoAni’s upcoming figure of K-On!’s Tainaka Ritsu

KyoAni's Ritsu preview

Following their Akiyama Mio figure, which would definitely fetch a high price on the online market, KyoAni will be making the “Don’t Say Lazy” version of Ritsu. I have to say, that like my initial impression of their Mio figure, the pose is quite unique compared to all the existing Ritsu figures out there, and of course, since it’s the “Don’t Say Lazy” version, the outfit is just wonderful. I’m really loving Ritsu’s heels so much, and the pose she’s in just accentuates it. Although it reminds me so much of a possible martial art pose, I can’t help but think that the pose actually directs the viewers attention to the smaller details of the figure, like for examplem Ritsu’s ring and her heels.

As much as I would wish I can collect KyoAni’s incarnations of the Keion-bu, my wallet is already dying so I’ll have to settle for nendoroids ^^;

Last, but DEFINITELY not the least among the exclusive releases list is…

Dengeki Hobby's Aisaka Taiga figure!

Dengeki Hobby’s new Aisaka Taiga figure! When I saw this I was just… in AWE. She is so lovely! And as you probably know by now… I’m a HUGE Taiga/Toradora! fan. I would definitely want to grab this figure, but seeing as she’s a mail-order exclusive, she’s not going to be budget friendly… which sucks because I already have a load of pre-orders in the following months and I don’t think I can squeeze more money for pre-ordering this lovely Taiga figure since I already bought a bunch of figures the past few days ;A;

A few days ago, I was technically attacked by an exclusive…

figma Kururugi Suzaku get!

A few days ago, I saw someone on LiveJournal posting a sale of different Code Geass figures and she happened to be selling a figma Suzaku as well. The figma was at a reasonable price so I took the opportunity to buy him since I’ve been searching for him for a while now (mostly because Lelouch is ronery!). So, I purchased figma Suzaku, along with a few other Geass trading figures and the damage is $140. Talk about expensive! But, that’s what you get for exclusives, I’m afraid.

I guess it might be a little ironic since I previously ranted about Saber Lily ~Distant Avalon~’s clone the Saber Lily ~Golden Caliburn~, and yet figma Suzaku is more or less also a clone of figma Lelouch, with just a different head. But then again, duplicates for articulate figures means more fun! Especially with what some of the Geass fangirls have been doing with these two. *hears guys’ screams from afar*

Well, as of this post, I’m nearing being broke… since I still have a list of pre-ordered figures I have yet to pay… but I still wish I can be able to avail of the Dengeki Hobby exclusive Taiga figure. ><; I guess that’s how it is when you have been effectively hit by the exclusive figures! OTL

    Heheh, I’ve already placed an order for Taiga. I really don’t like exclusive but for her I will make an exception! :3

      FFFF. YOU I HAET ;A; /bitter
      You POed thru Tokyo Hunter? How much did it cost you?

      • 3 anonymous_object April 13, 2010 at 2:45 AM

        Sorry ^^;
        I used Goody-Japan, actually. Cheaper than Tokyo Hunter. I would only use Tokyo Hunter if there was no web order form. i.e. mail-order form only. Kotobukiya’s Taiga was mail-order only so I had to use Tokyo Hunter for her.

        Oh yeah, price breakdown:
        Subtotal amount : 6,500 yen

        Plus some international shipping fee when it gets shipped out to me ^^.

    OH.MY.GOD!
    Taiga DO WANT!

    Dammit all! What the heck is with all these exclusives! I’ve been waiting for so long for Don’t Say Lazy versions of the K-On figures and them being exclusive has actually made me angry.

    Seriously – do the figure manufacturers hope to make any sort of serious profit by making them exclusives? Perhaps so, on a deeper level – they potentially manufacture equally as many as non-exclusives, but them being exclusives fetch a higher demand and sell more, where as non-exclusives have a risk of not selling.

    Still, it’s the middlemen that make the most money out of it by upping commission due to demand.

    The Taiga figure is really sweet, and I’d love to get it, but after hearing the price breakdown, that’s nearly $100 Canadian for me, which is not something I’d be willing to pay. I don’t want it *that* much, I’d think.

    In regards to the Figma clones, that’s old-hat really. Lucky Star, and Haruhi, and heck, any uniform-related figma comes to mind.

    • 6 Ninjovee April 16, 2010 at 11:26 PM

      Yes. I was actually bummed when I first heard announcements for Don’t Say Lazy Mio. =_=; So I passed on from collecting K-On! Scaled figures and will settle in trying to complete the Nendos.

      I think what figure manufacturers are doing is minimizing losses in case the exclusive doesn’t click. Then again, it’s also possible that the site/organization where the exclusive will be ordered from gives additional commission to the figure manufacturers, which is why they do this. I also have a theory, which is far fetched… they might be doing this to give middlemen and figure shops in Akiba more business… but that’s a little bit too good-natured for a business decision.

      I… pre-ordered Taiga too. I love her too much ;A;

      As for the figma clones, yes there is a point about Lucky Star and Haruhi clones… but they’ve never really been exclusives with just the swapped head(…except Konata Haruhi cosplay ver.). Now that I think about it. They did do that for the previous EX figmas… Dx

    Interesting! Thought that one will like the plushie more than the keychain!

    I mean srsly, the Taiga thing’s really getting on my nerves. Out of the many Taiga figures out there, i can say at least 80% of it is exclusive. Including the one that radiant has (Super pretty!!!!) Have some serious ideas for this Taiga figure might have to throw it out unless i can find someone here that buys it.

    Grats in Figma Suzaku! Now all you need is a “The Body Shop” Box, and the 2 of them inside!

    • 8 Ninjovee April 16, 2010 at 11:33 PM

      Well, I’m not a huge fan of plushies… which explains my preference ^^;

      I am also annoyed at the scarcity of Taiga figures since Taiga is a popular enough character to have more figures manufactured of her. ><; And…if I recall correctly, Radiant doesn't have any Taiga figures that are exclusives… o.o;

      Hahaha! The Body Shop XD Nice idea. Hahaha.

        I thought the Angel “Christmas” Taiga was a Japan only? Doesn’t that make it an exclusive?

        An shop was retailing it for $250 SGD over here.

      • 10 Ninjovee April 29, 2010 at 8:04 PM

        Just to correct you, that’s Miss-con Taiga… that particular outfit was from the School Festival episode, not the Christmas episode ^^;

        and no… she’s not a Japan-only release. She’s a normal scaled figure release as you can see in AmiAmi, Hobby Search, and HLJ (she’s still in stock in HLJ!)

        I even got my own brand new Miss-con Taiga at a reasonable price from a figure.fm member. :D

        So… that just means that the shop was trying to rip you off. :/

    These days I try and pass on exclusives unless it’s something I REALLY REALLY 100% want. I also generally try and avoid color variations of the same figure. The only exceptions this year have been for the Dark Saber Maid by Alter, and the Macross FrontierxLucky Star Figures. Taiga is cute, but I’m not a big enough fan of hers to go after an exclusive of her.

    • 12 Ninjovee April 16, 2010 at 11:37 PM

      Ah Dark Saber Maid. I’ve wanted her too… but then, I didn’t buy her anyway. ^^;

      I’m pretty much in the same boat with you. I have a tight budget compared to most of the people in the figure collecting community, so I usually go for the figures of characters I really love. So far, I have only gotten to buy Taiga figures recently and I love her to bits. ^^

    I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! I’ve been into customizing dolfies and everytime I think of a charater I like, my wallet and bank account let out annoyed sighs.

  6. 14 lightningsabre April 19, 2010 at 4:49 PM

    I just saw Taiga at Otacute… I contemplated for a while. It was US$104.50. Now if it wasn’t Wave that made it then I would consider it, but even though Wave is a good company, they’re not as good as Alter or GSC or even Kotobukiya. Even though it is Taiga, I’d rather save the money and find that ultra rare swimsuit Taiga from Kotobukiya (which is probably $200-$300 these days if I can find one >_<)

    • 15 Ninjovee April 19, 2010 at 9:15 PM

      I just realized that Otacute, even with their nice services… charge too much… BUT they do let you pay later… which is probably worth the extra 15USD compared to proxy services wherein you have to pay for the figure upfront.

      I actually just realized that the only scaled Taiga figures that I have ordered are all from Wave. I think their quality is pretty nice… from what I’ve seen from photos online that is. XD

      *sigh* Koto Swimsuit Taiga… I can only hold her in my DREAMS ;A;

  7. 16 Yi April 29, 2010 at 6:12 PM

    I really like Sanae too, but more for the frog on her hair. The other three figures don’t really excite me too much. Admittedly, Ritsu looks like it will be a beautiful figure… I just don’t like her. :(
